Duo Tilman Günther & Florian Döling

Based on over 3 decades of playing together, pianist Tilman Günther and bassist Florian Döling compile their set-lists for their duo-concerts. In addition to their own compositions, they interpret delightful songs of well-known and lesser-known (jazz) composers who shape and accompany the composing and playing of the two musicians, following a motto by pianist Bill Evans "Especially, I want my work to sing".

The latest program - to be found on the duo's live CD Rede vom Glück - includes some new compositions by the bassist and a small best of their joint music-making, documented on several CDs in a wide variety of line-ups, as well as tributes to selected jazz colleagues and their compositional highlights.

The sound of the duo is purely acoustic, without electronic effects, loopers or pre-processing and very intimate. The duo's playing is characterized by communication and the development of melodic phrases in the improvisations, which stand side by side on an equal level and sometimes interweave. The original compositions in particular are very melodic and oriented towards classical song structures, offering enough space for resting sounds, but also for exuberant joy of playing and groove-emphasized passages.

For the live CD Rede vom Glück, sound engineer Marcus Rübsamen captured the duo's acoustic sound perfectly thanks to high-quality microphones and state-of-the-art technology.
